Armenian Gull - Larus armenicus
Adult
Armenian Gull: Adult summer: Ma'agan Mikhael fish ponds, Israel 22nd March 2012

A stunning gull when adults and certainly very distinctive.

The eye is dark with red orbital ring and the bill is bright orange-yellow with bold black band and red Gonydeal spot. This birds is fairly long billed compared to some but does have a blunt tipped appearance.

Note the flat back and mid to dark grey upperparts.
Armenian Gull: Adult summer: Ma'agan Mikhael fish ponds, Israel 21st March 2012

Note how evening light can alter the appearance of the grey upper-parts and almost seem twice as dark.

Another classic bird with a more typical lengthed bill with slight pale distal tip.

The legs are mustard yellow compared to the orange-yellow of the bill.

The primaries show only the smallest of white tips and a small mirror to P10, perhaps indicating not yet fully adult?
