Etty Bay south of Innisfail on the North Queensland coast is perhaps the most reliable place to get the magnificent Cassowary. After three days of trying I had multiple sightings from just around the caravan park area which beat the failed waiting around attempt at Cassowary House and the 'not got a hope in hell chance' trails at Mission Beach. At Etty Bay I had a male and chick on the beach and a separate larger male at the caravan park several times. The caravan park bird is the last in the series below.
A family party of three Emu came into the 'front garden' at the entrance to the Mareeba Wetlands visitor centre where they lingered drinking from the birdbath for about 20 minutes before wandering back off into the bush. These birds are apparently regular visitors though you have to be lucky to be there when they stroll in.
