13th January - Spoke to soon, have been unwell again all this week and not ventured out of the door which will mean not getting to the tip or the Spanish Sparrow in Hampshire at the weekend. I did manage to get some fresh air however, had to force myself out the door, and went photographed for half hour the nearby Snow Buntings at Shoebury East Beach.
Hopefully I'll be up and running proper for next weekend.
1st January - After doing northing for the first week of the month, and not much during December, it was good to get out and see some gulls again, especially as I've been laid up unwell for a few days.
There were a lot of gulls at the tip today but not as many as my last visit and with many Iceland and numerous Kumliens Gulls arriving on the west coast and in Ireland after the storms I was hopeful of a white-winger today, alas it was again not to be but it was not for the want of trying. Neil and myself mustered up a grand total of 8 different Caspians Gulls but actually could have been as many as 9 or 10 depending on the outcome of some photo comparisons.
Other scarcer gulls were out numbered with only one or two MedGulls and 4 Yellow-legged Gulls.
Still the winter is still young and the are any more weekends to try for the white-wingers yet
