Kumlien's Gull : Second-winter, Nimmo's Pier
Second-winter: Note the pale eye, pale bill with dark tip and remnant dark shaft streaks on the wing coverts. This bird is included here as a Kumliens Gull are fine details of wing coverts match exactly that of a bird that was photographed here in January. Images of this bird in January can be seen at www.irishbirdimages.com. The bird has 'paled' somewhat since January and has lost the pale brownish wash on the primaries that is visible in the January images. Although the wing covert markings are faded there are enough consistencies to match the bird. It was however retrospectively identified as the same bird only on return home and had gone down as an Iceland Gull whilst we were in Galway.
