A rather white individual

This was a large whitish bird, close to Great Black-backed Gull in size. It was seen subsequently at Barling Tip on the other side of the river Roach on 20th Februrary 2008 and for a few subsequent days before relocating 18 miles further west to Hole Haven Creek on 28th February 2008;

This rather diminutive bird, presumably a female, lingered in the area of Hole Haven Creek, West Canvey Island and Pitsea Tip during February 2008 and was seen on several visits.

A mid sized tea coloured bird was present at Hole Haven Creek during late February, putting in a showing on each visit. The following images are those visits. This is identified as a different bird that was here on 13th and 19th February based on the lack of white ate the lores and chin, more strongly barred tertials and wing coverts.

This image clearly shows the fine upper-tail patterning; the tea coloured marbled tail feathers with stronger bars towards the feather tips whilst the feather tips themselves are white; the upper-tail coverts are boldly barred.

The following images show the bird in the same frame as a near adult Caspian Gull, below the Caspian is the bird towards the bottom left of the image. This must be a combination that has rarely, if ever, been photographed in the same frame before in the UK
