A mid sized tea coloured bird was present at Hole Haven Creek during late February, putting in a showing on each visit. The following images are those visits. This is identified as a different bird that was here on 13th and 19th February based on the lack of white ate the lores and chin, more strongly barred tertials and wing coverts.

The images above and the next show the bird in the same frame as a near adult Caspian Gull, below the Caspian is the bird towards the bottom left of the image. This must be a combination that has rarely, if ever, been photographed in the same frame before in the UK

This bird has clean looking wing coverts with no obvious barring whilst the mantle and scapulars and some median coverts are replaced grey this bird could infact be a 2nd-winter however the dark eye tends to lend the ID towards a 1st winter.
Glaucous Gull, juvenile, Pitsea Tip, Essex 7th February 2009
A typical tea coloured juvenile. The wing coverts and tertials are fairly strongly marked. Note the intricately patterned scapulars. The bill is pale pink with the dipped in ink tip. Note the bold white eye ring really stands out.
