Although this bird looks like an adult on the spread wing there was a dark line along P9 indicating this as a second-winter instead. Such birds illustrate the highly variable nature of the wing tip patterning.

Of the count of 162 MedGulls in the morning at this site nearly half were juveniles, most now with replaced scapulars and wing coverts and well on their way to first-winter plumage.
