A good number of Yellow-legged Gulls present during the last week of August; all showing various stages of moult and head streaking patterning, ranging from none to heavy.

This third year bird was clearly a few shades darker than the surrounding Herring Gulls and exhibits pale pasty fleshy coloured legs. The bill is bulbous tipped and shows a prominent band. The primaries lack any spots and mirrors though perhaps the outmost has a tatty pale tip.

There has been a fairly steady run of juvenile birds with this one now already showing a couple of replaced scapulars; this was not present yet on the left side of the bird.

Juvenile Yellow-legged Gulls don't come much better. Note that already this bird is showing replaced scapulars, something that the Herring Gulls present where not showing.
