High Island, Texas - April 2008
Birds of Prey

Black Vultures were marginally outnumbered by Turkey Vultures on the coast whilst further inland Blacks were commoner. Several small scavenging flocks were found near Pattison Road north east of Winnie where they were feeding on roadkill Nine-banded Armadillos.

Typical view of a Turkey Vulture with this bird at Sabine Woods. Roosting birds could be found scattered about the woods of High Island, these two at Smith Oaks, early in the morning waiting for the day to heat up.

One of only a handful of Broad-winged Hawks seen during the 10 days in Texas, this bird was at Sabine Woods.
